Blog Stage eight: Comment on a colleague's work #2

According to "What to say when your neighbor comes over uninvited?", Lollie Martin wrote about how Trump is threaten Mexicans by building walls and fences along the Mexico-United States border. She insist that there are other ways to handle the problem of illegal immigrants such as obtaining citizenship easier and increasing security along the borders. Trump stated that boarders are threaten United States territory, safe and population by allowing thousands of illegal immigrants to come to the United States. I understand why he strongly oppose since these immigrants are coming illegally, however, he is not only threatening these people. He is warning other immigrants as well.
To be honest with you, I don't believe Trump. Okay, let me say in this way. I don't like Trump. This is pretty straightforward to say it but it is true. As an international student, there are many difficulties which I face by studying abroad from living far away with my family and friends. I basically left everything in my country just for my future. And now, Trump is trying to stop me and other international students. I still can't forget when Trump declared before he gets elected. He said that he will make all the immigrants out of the United States. His phrase made me worried and hopeless. It was not only me who felt like this. Most of the immigrants were mad at him. Because he is basically taking our opportunity and future. I tried to understand him as a person, but I couldn't. Well, probably because I'm Korean that we have more issues going on than this. That is why I have more antipathy toward him than other immigrants. However, if he forces the immigrants to get out of the United States, there will be  huge political issues are going to happen. Since Trump is the president of one of the dominant countries in the world that he should think and behave carefully, before he says because he represents his country and whole world is watching him.

One of the most well-known topics which many people are still debating in today is about abortion. This is a sensitive topic for women because it is such a complex issue. Each individuals have their own beliefs and perspectives of view point in their lives. Therefore, in this case, it classifies into two groups: pro-choice and pro-life.
Pro-choice supporters believe that everything depends on women's decision. Not all women want their child. It has higher chance that the most of the women who accidentally have a baby were rape by the stranger, mistake, and so on. Unfortunately, having a baby is not a blessing to them, but blocking their future. Moreover, some insist that every women should be able to decided for herself if, when and with whom to start or grow a family. Abortion is more than having unwanted baby. It is for the rights of the women equality and autonomy that it should be essential for the rights of women. Thus, abortion should not be limited by governmental or religious authority, and which outweighs any right claimed for an embryo or fetus.
On the other hand, pro-life supporters claimed that abortion should be legal. Abortion is not a simple problem that the women can decide themselves whether to kill or not. It is the immoral killing of an innocent human being. Additionally, this is unfair to allow abortion when someone cannot biologically conceive are waiting to adopt. Furthermore, all the religions have taken strong positions on abortion. They assert that it encompasses of life, death, right and wrong, and human relationships and the nature of society, which make it a major religious concern.
All things considered, I support both sides because it it really depends on the situation. If the women was raped by the men, that was not her choice to be pregnant. Her life is priority to her and no one can judge her no matter what. On the contrary to this, I would also support them as well. Each individuals have their own perspectives and ways of life that it should be respected although you might not agree with them.

Blog Stage Six: Comment on a colleague's work #1

I have been always thinking that the United States should strengthen the law of gun control. Gun violence is getting worse so that a lot of people are suffering in these days. According to one of my classmates Pearlamedrano, she claimed that the government should make laws more strict to be able to own guns in the United States. Along with this, I totally agree with her because of the population of the people who were killed by the gun is increasing day by day. Some people may insist that they are not using their gun as a weapon but for hunting and protection. However, the impacts of the gun violence are negatively pervasive and affect entire families and communities. For instance, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that occurred in Florida led 17 people dead and 19 people injured. This shows gun violence is not only occurring in dangerous places but schools as well. It is taking children’s lives where the place was not supposed to happen. Since gun violence is mentally and physically threatening people, it is important to regulate the gun violence to limit to access for the safety of all.

Blog Stage Five: Original editorial or commentary #1

Racial inequality bewteen black and white is still an consequential issue not only in

America but a world wide. Black people were tended to be a slave for the white people.

Look back into the US history, the people who lived in the Massachusetts hired a lot of

black people from Africa to produce a lot of crops by using them as a farmer. Black

people were treated differently with white people that they were not even allowed to be

a citizen of the America. Only White man can have a citizen in the United States.

Moreover, they were mostly abused that they don't even have their own rights as a

human being. Recently, there was an gun shooting in the Florida at Majory Stoneman

Douglas highschool. According to the ariticle, the African American students said that

they were ignored by the media of the vital gun shooting. 17 students were killed

because of this gun violence. Even though a lot of things has been changed and

developed, there are still an racial inequalities in now a days. Since America is one of the

most influencial country in the world with the diverse group of people by religion, color

of skin, and point of view. I believe that the government should give more opportunity

to black people so that they can raise their opinion like what white people have as a

same human being.

Blog Stage Four: Substantial critique Of An Editorial Or Commentary From A Blog

On Thursday, March 29, 2018, TIME published an article about the "Trump threatens to Leverage South Korea Trade Deal in North Korea Talks". According to the author of Darlene Superville, he has assert that Trump announced his plans to hold bilateral about the meeting with Kim Jong Un which will be in the end of May. Because compared to before, the rhetoric of the North Korea has calmed down. However, it does not mean Trump's first trade of the administration will not change since this is one of the important and strong card which United States can hold  be able to have a constant trade in both South Korea and North Korea. Nevertheless, Trump did not specifically mentioned about what leverage the United States would accomplish by holding up trade deal with South Korea.

As a citizen of South Korea, one thing that I am concerned about this is that Trump did not clearly indicate his opinion. Therefore, it is difficult to know what the United States wants from both South Korea and North Korea. Moreover, most of the Trump's action and words are different that no one can predict what is going to happen in the future. I hope Trump would take serious about this for the safety of the three countries. All things considered, I do agree with the author that the Trump has threatened to leverage South Korea to be able to have a trade deal in North Korea talks.

Blog Stage Three: Substantial Critical An Editorial Or Commentary From A National Newspaper

On Thursday, January 11, 2018, CNN published an article about “The answer toborder security is technology, not wall”. Henry Cuellar, the author insisted that building a physical wall would be ineffective to reduce the population of the people who are undocumented, because they will continue to bring illegal drugs to cross the border into the United States. Therefore, to solve this problem, instead of setting a wall, the government should increase the use of the modern technology to secure it such as cameras, fixed towers and aerial and underground sensors. Along with Henry Cuellar, I totally agree with him because of the two reasons. First of all, it is impossible to stop all the undocumented people from the Mexico by building a wall. Even though the United States set up the wall between the Mexico and the United states, the people will still come to the United States to find another way. Therefore, using the modern technology will be more effective to the United States to be secure. Second of all, building a wall is not a simple solution that the United States government can decide. It contains the relationship between America and Mexico. Thus, if United States decide to make a wall between the Mexico, it is possible to negatively affect the relationship as a trade partner. To solve this problem with respect to Mexico, the government should remedy with Mexico government: strengthen the Mexican law enforcement and US Border Patrol coordinate interdiction efforts, perform joint patrols, respond to border violence and pursue prosecution of criminals of transnational criminal organizations. All things considered, I believe that the United States should use the modern technology to certainly reduce the number of undocumented people more but maintain the good relationship with Mexico.

Blog Stage Two: Article introduction and collegue's blogs

In 1619, the United States started the slave trade. At that time, Europeans brought most of the slaves from Africa. Moreover, they discriminated against them since they have darker skin color. Therefore, a lot of black people were physically and mentally suffered while on slaved. Furthermore, today, black people are still fighting for their racial equality.
On Wednesday, February 7, 2018, New York times published an article titled "Muhiyidin Moye, Black Lives Matter Activist, Is Shot and killed in New Orleans". Muhiyidin Moye was a prominent Black Lives Matter activist. He raised his voice about the black man who was shot by the police officer in April 2015. At the age of 32, he was killed by shot in a leg on a Tuesday in New Orleans, while he was riding a bike. According to the police officer, there is not specific evidence id someone intentionally killed him or not because New Orleans has one of the highest murder rates in the United States.
I choose this article because even these days, there are a lot of inequalities between black and white. Black people are judged by the color of their skin when applying for a job, earning household income, and getting into the education system. Thus, it is important to clarify that all people have a equal rights despite the color of their skin.
